Sword & Trowel

Sword & Trowel

I’ll be honest, I have been looking for a place to use this logo more than just throwing it on a patch or t-shirt.  This logo means a lot to me.  It has everything to do with my outlook on life, family, and my company.  Everything I post in this blog will have some kind of relation to this logo and what it means.

What does it mean you ask?  It is based on the story of Nehemiah from the bible.  Nehemiah was a brave leader who was tasked by God to rebuild the Jerusalem walls that had been destroyed during the Babylonian Conquest.  Each day Nehemiah and his team were faced with opposition and hostility from the surrounding nations who did not want to see them succeed.  However, Nehemiah completed his task in just 52 days by empowering each family to trust in the power of the Lord by reminding them “Don’t be afraid of them.  Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, you sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.” Neh 4:14

What Nehemiah would tell the people next has had a profound meaning for me.  “From that day on, half of my men did the work, while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor.  The officers posted themselves behind all the people of Judah who were building the wall.  Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and a had a weapon with the other, and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked.”  Neh 4:16-18a

We all have a wall in our lives that needs building.  Building our wall comes with a cost and opposition.  We need to be brave, wise and calculated and always keep our eyes on the task ahead.  But we also must be ready to defend what matters most.  We are called to carry a sword in one hand and a trowel in the other.

The double headed eagle holding the sword and trowel represents the joining of two forces; build and protect.  The crest on its chest blazes the wall that we each have to build.

No matter if you believe in God and the scriptures, if you have felt the calling to be a defender, I feel this is something you can get behind.  I do my best to live my life to constantly be accomplishing my task at hand that is of value.  And always be ready to fight for it.

I would love to hear your thoughts.
