Today we honor the fallen, to all the Military Service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country and to fight for our freedoms. I am opening up this blog today to all of you who know someone who made that sacrifice. Not all who died in the service of their country perished in combat.
Bob was a fighter pilot – the A-4 ‘Scooter’ – carrier qualified and with one mission flying aircraft to Israel. The closest he came to firing a shot in anger was when the flight was approached by Egyptian fighters, which thought better of tangling with Marine pilots, and a potential astronaut.
He drove himself hard, perfecting his craft, and on 30 November 1974, on a training flight, his aircraft malfunctioned. He ejected, but his parachute failed to open.
He is missed.

My grandfather’s brother. Legend has it that Uncle Willie would send money home for his brother’s (my grandfather) children (my dad and uncle) since he did not have children. After the war, the children would play with his Purple Heart. He was killed in France. Life of poor and ignorant folk. Godspeed Great-Uncle Willie. You’ll never be forgotten.
